Athletics
The Marin Horizon Athletics Program offers students of all abilities the opportunity to participate on a school team, learn new skills, increase fitness, and have fun with friends.
Our program offers all students the perfect introduction to athletic competition and team sports, giving our team members an opportunity to display their school spirit and athletic prowess. In the true Marin Horizon way, we promote participation, determination, and trying one's best, with success coming from effort and commitment.
Our inclusive philosophy means that no try-outs are needed and no one will be cut from a team. Our program allows all students to discover new athletic strengths and skills, and focuses on supporting one another. Teams are coached by Marin Horizon PE faculty members and compete against public, private, and parochial middle schools throughout Marin County. All students are highly encouraged to participate!
Fall: Cross-Country
3rd-5th Grade (all genders)
Our lower school cross-country program prepares our young athletes by teaching pacing, breathing, running technique, race starts, and finishing strong. This year, there are three cross-country races open to 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. Our students run supervised trails in the Marin Headlands, Tennessee Valley, and Homestead Valley. Races will be approximately one mile on a closed course, including the Panther Invitational at Stinson Beach, Miwok Meadows Invitational at China Camp, and the County Finals at the San Geronimo Golf Course.
6th-8th Grade (all genders)
Our middle school program trains our athletes for upcoming Main County meets and prepares our students for high school cross-country teams. Our middle school runners train on the Richardson Bay bike path, Mt. Tamalpias trails, and Homestead Valley trails during PE classes and after school in preparation for their season's races. Training runs are approximately 1.5 miles long on mixed terrain. Competitions include the Panther Challenge, Tiburon Invitational, and Cross Country Finals.
Fall: Flag Football
6th-8th Grade (all genders)
Under the expert guidance of Coach Stevie Lee, our team members are taught the fundamentals, rules, and strategy of the game of flag football. Players have the opportunity to rotate through a number of different positions during the season, allowing students to gain a deeper understanding of the teamwork needed for success. Practice happens on the Marin Horizon main campus during PE classes, lunchtime, and after school. One-hour games are held against other Marin schools on weekday afternoons.
Winter: Basketball
Girls Basketball - 2 teams
Boys Basketball - 2 teams
5th-8th Grade
Our basketball teams compete in the Marin Small School League, an instructional league that allows room for beginners to learn the game in a safe and fun way, and those not so new to the game to hone their skills and lead their teammates. Our basketball program emphasizes good sportsmanship, skill development, giving your best, supporting others, and representing Marin Horizon. Basketball teams practice in PE classes and after school at area gymnasiums. Games are played weekday afternoons in school gymnasiums around the county.
Spring: Track & Field
6th-8th Grade (all genders)
In spring, all of our middle school students participate in the regional track and field competition at the Tamalpais High School track in April. Our program stands out in its inclusivity by encouraging every single one of our students to compete in at least one event. Many students represent our school in multiple events, which include high jump, long jump, short and middle distance sprints, shot put, and relay races. Students practice and train for events in their PE classes at Kezar Stadium, College of Marin, and the Tamalpais High School tracks. Qualifying students are invited to compete in the Marin County Championship Meet.
